Pre Prosthetic Surgery

Our team provides a variety of treatments to help you achieve a complete, beautiful smile. Pre-prosthetic surgery refers to the preparation of your mouth before the placement of a prosthesis. There are certain conditions of the mouth and teeth that must be met before dentures can be placed, which conditions are designed to increase your comfort and ease throughout treatment. With this procedure, Dr. Jeremy Hixson, can ensure that your full or partial denture(s) will properly fit and function by performing any necessary pre-prosthetic surgery in Eagle, Idaho.

Dentures sit on the bone ridge, which requires a proper shape and size for your restoration. A full-mouth extraction may be required for a complete arch replacement, and a tooth may need to be extracted for partials. For either treatment, a patient’s underlying bone may be uneven or sharp as a result of the tooth extraction. To ensure that your dentures fit perfectly, our oral surgeon may smooth or reshape this bone.

In general, one of more of the following procedures may be included when preparing your mouth for a denture:

  • Bone smoothing and reshaping
  • Removal of excess bone
  • Bone ridge reduction
  • Removal of excess gum tissue
  • Exposure of impacted teeth
